How to play Ludo on Ludopat

Ludopat plays classic Nigerian-style Ludo with two dice. Here are the rules every game follows, whether you play our bots, a friend or a staked game room match.

  1. Two players, two houses each. Every game is one versus one. Player one owns Red and Green, player two owns Yellow and Blue. You may move seeds from either of your houses.
  2. Roll two dice. Each die is a separate move. Use both dice every turn if you can, on one seed or on two different seeds.
  3. A six brings a seed out. A seed leaves the yard onto its start square only with a die showing 6.
  4. Double six: roll again. Rolling 6 and 6 means you roll again, and again, until you roll something that is not a double six. All of those dice are then yours to play.
  5. Kill to get out. Land on an opponent seed and it goes back to its yard, and your killing seed goes out (it leaves the board as if it reached home). There are no safe squares.
  6. Only kill if you can finish your roll. Because the killing seed leaves the board, you can only kill if you can still play your other dice: with another seed already on the board, or with a 6 to bring a seed out of your yard. A kill that uses your last die is always allowed.
  7. Your last seed runs the full roll. When you have one seed left, it must move the full total of your dice. If the total would overshoot home, it cannot move that turn. Once it is in its five home-column tiles (the final run), it can use a single die.
  8. Reach home exactly. Seeds travel clockwise round the board, then up their own coloured home column. You need the exact count to get home.
  9. Win. The first player to get all eight seeds out (home or by killing) wins.

Moving your seeds

Drag a seed to a glowing square, or tap it to use the highlighted die. Turn the Helper off in settings if you prefer to play without hints. In online games each action has a timer; if you run out of time, or lose connection, the bot plays for you so the game keeps moving.

Pausing and chat

In games against people each player has a limited number of pauses. A pause stops the clock and opens the chat terminal. Either player can resume early, and the game resumes on its own when the pause time is up.
